PRESIDENTS REPORT - 2009-2010
The Year in Review.
Our relationship with our neighboring clubs of St John's Catholic Tennis Club and Viewbank Tennis Club continued successfully again throughout the year enabling them to provide opportunities for juniors in the area. Both clubs used our courts for competition and other club events throughout the year .
The arrangement we had in place with Viewbank Tennis Club to use the top courts for Saturday Juniors has now finished as at the completion of the last season and we have now agreed to make the courts available for hire on a season by season basis.
Memberships.
We continue to have members who think they can play and use the facilities and never put their hand in their pocket. Ten unfinancial members and several other night tennis players representing the club on a weekly basis don't think they should pay and this results in a revenue loss of around $2,000 a year.
Membership revenue, our main source of income, has dropped this year due two main factors.
" Unfinancial members and
" a net decrease in our total numbers.
Our Membership list, despite welcoming 5 new members, has dropped and currently stands at 71 members made up of 66 senior members (42 males and 24 Females) and 5 Juniors.
Clubrooms & Courts.
During the year we have again utilized the services of Flash Tennis Courts to maintain the playing services of all courts,. We have spent over $2,500 on chemical treatment for water retention on all 6 courts. This was done under the scheme offered by council to help with a third of the costs in the form of a rebate to the club and we are still waiting on council to fulfill their end of the bargain. The last correspondence indicates that the council is cash strapped and may not be able to meet their commitment.
The cost of electricity has risen dramatically and although our usage has increased slightly the cost to the club has more than doubled.
What's Ahead??.
We have moved with the times and now have our own web site which is supported and hosted by Artacs IT Solutions, one of our new and only sponsors. You can find us at "banyuletennis.com" and we will be using the internet and email in the future to communicate information to members. This site will be fully operational by 1st July so lets see as many visitors as we can.
We are also in the process of getting quotes for the purchase and installation of Lights on the top three courts. Having three additional courts available for Night Tennis will enable the club to start the process of "regrowth" and enable us to increase activity at the Club.
Committee.
I would like to thank the Committee for their contributions to our meetings and their efforts in keeping the club operational and successful. The change to bi-monthly meetings has certainly reduced the time-commitment.
Robyn Gatt who has been treasurer for the last six years has advised that she will not be continuing in that role next year but has indicated that she will continue on as a member of the general committee.
Thank you Robyn for your stellar efforts in the role as Treasurer.
